The 2009 Scot of the Year contest is a two-horse race, with songstress Susan Boyle facing stiff competition from the smoking hot and strapping action/romantic-com leading man Gerard Butler.

Though Butler has been on the scene for a few years, slaying his way with a sculpted six pack to stardom in '300' and then making the ladies swoon with turns in romantic comedies,Susan, as we all know, has gone from small town gal to globe trotting superstar singer in less than twelve months.

Scotscare, a charity based in London that offers advice and help to Scots living in the English capital, are running the poll to find out who is top of the Scots.

"We have a diverse range of contenders for this year's Scot of the Year title,” said ScotsCare's chief executive Willie Docherty "I look forward to seeing who the public feel has waved the flag for Scotland in the right direction."

Well, you can’t get more diverse than the dashing actor and the singing phenom.  Who would you vote for? True, Gerard Butler is a dish, but Susan Boyle has made her village of Blackburn known all over the world, and this gutsy lady, whose performance of “I Dreamed a Dream” on “Britain’s Got Talent” has been watched over 120 million times online, should sweep up the Scot of the Year title to add to her growing list of accolades.

The two ladies pose behind plastic packaging on set of Mariah’s video for “Up Out My Face (Remix).” The clip, which was filmed last week in Los Angeles, was directed by Nick Cannon. Tom Cruise is being sued for allegedly hiring a notorious P.I. to illegally wiretap a magazine editor's phone ... according to documents obtained by TMZ.

The plaintiff, Michael Davis Sapir, claims Cruise, attorney Bert Fields and jailed private investigator Anthony Pellicano conspired to spy on him.

There is a long history between Cruise and Sapir. In 2001, Cruise sued Sapir for $100 million after Sapir claimed to have video evidence that Cruise "engaged in a homosexual relationship." That lawsuit settled later that year. In the settlement, both parties issued a statement saying that no such tape existed.

In the latest suit, filed Friday in L.A. County Superior Court, Sapir claims Pellicano illegally wiretapped his phone during the time the 2001 lawsuit was active.

Sapir claims in the suit that Cruise, Fields and Pellicano were all in cahoots.

Sapir is suing for $5 million, minimum.

Bert Fields tells TMZ, "The allegations are absolute garbage. We did not even hire Pellicano to work on the Sapir case."

No immediate comment from Cruise's rep. Pellicano is in the pokey.

Jesse McCartney may have an obsession to work with American Idol and X Factor performers.

The 22-year-old musician, who has worked with Jordin Sparks and Leona Lewis in the past, wants to write some songs for Adam Lambert.

Jesse shared with MTV, “I feel like there’s so many people like trying to do that thing for him and it’s a little unfocused for me. But I think he’s amazing.”

So just what would he write for Adam? “Well listen, I love the whole sort of kind of glam-rock type thing, and nobody’s doing it. It’s something that fits him, his personality perfectly and he’s got the whole Queen thing going on, which is great, and he can pull it off. He’s badass at it. It would have to be consistent. I wouldn’t do anything too pop-ish, ’cause I don’t think it’s necessary,” he said.

Jesse also dished to MTV about former Summerland costar Zac Efron, and had nothing but kind words to the actor.





Jesse shared, “I actually ran into Zac like two weeks ago. We ran into each other. Literally we pulled into the parking spaces at the same time. We talked for a few minutes. Zac’s a great guy and I’m really happy for all the success. We worked together for two, three years on Summerland, and I remember when he came on the second season, he came on as a guest star and people were so impressed that they made him a star on the show.”

Kevin Jonas, from the hit group The Jonas Brothers, and his wife Danielle Deleasa had a winter wonderland wedding over the weekend in Long Island, New York.

Last July, the couple commissioned jewelry house Jacob & Co. to design the couple’s 3 carat engagement ring.

As for the wedding bands used on Saturday, Danielle’s Jacob & Co. diamond eternity band was crafted in 18kt white gold and features round cut brilliant diamonds, totaling 3.83 carats. Kevin’s Jacob & Co. band is crafted in stainless steel with single rows of brilliant-cut diamonds along each edge and on each side, totaling 2.24 carats.

Kevin also had custom-made platinum jewelry by CliQ: platinum cufflinks with 3.5 carats of diamonds and crafted with 186 round diamonds, platinum tuxedo shirt studs surrounded by diamonds, and platinum tie accent with round diamonds.

Yes, the cast of MTV's suprise hit show is now taking appearance fees to attend events and parties.
But not all of these guidos and guidettes have the same price tag.

"We get the most requests for Mike (aka The Situation) and Pauly D," Michael Schweiger of CEG Talent told me. "They're $7,500 per person."

That'd buy a lot of hair gel and tanning sessions, huh?

To boot, that fee doesn't include their hotel rooms, as well as air and ground transportation costs, which also need to be covered by the requester.

And they're not just being asked to show up at clubs and parties, either. Schweiger says just last week, one girl requested to have Pauly D walk her down the aisle at her wedding.

No word on whether the DJ with the overgelled hair will say 'I do' to that offer, but she offered "loads of money," according to Schweiger.

If you're on a budget, there's cheaper castmembers you might be able to afford...
Snooki's asking fee is only $2,000 plus transportation, according to Neon Entertainment.

Secondary players like Ronnie and Vinnie are about $3,500 per person, while Jenni "J-Woww" is around $5,000.

"We're starting to see a lot more requests for Jenni," Schweiger tells me.

So where will the cast be counting down on New Years' Eve? MTV has already booked them to appear on their NYE live show.

As for the rest of 2010, if you want a piece of Jersey, you better act now...their schedules are supposedly filling
up fast.

"We're booked through May and June," Schweiger told me.

TMZ has learned Brittany Murphy's autopsy is complete. There were no signs of foul play, we've learned, and there was nothing that pointed to a cause of death.

Sources say the L.A. County Coroner will wait for the toxicology report, as well as the histopathology (study of her organs and tissues) and neuropathology (study of her brain).

One source said the body appeared "normal." In addition, we're told she did not appear overly thin -- in contrast to some photos that surfaced several weeks ago.

We're told the Coroner will not determine cause of death until the other reports are submitted. One issue the Coroner is interested in -- what prescription drugs were in Brittany Murphy's system.

I know that we all knew that nothing would be concluded from the autopsy until the toxicology report is back but I thought I'd post anyway.

Ricky Martin Condemns Antigay Hate Crimes

By Julie Bolcer Pop superstar Ricky Martin released a statement, published in the Puerto Rican newspaper El Nuevo Dia on Saturday, that denounces recent antigay murders and asks people to “accept diversity” as the first step toward eliminating hate. “In the past few weeks, I've read many articles that have made me shudder and unfortunately the articles relate to things that are happening every day around the world,” wrote Martin, who also posted the statement on his website in English earlier this month. “I find it almost impossible to believe that in the year 2009, we're struggling with such hateful situations.” Martin, whose sexuality is the subject of frequent speculation, was born in Puerto Rico, where gay teenager Jorge Steven Lopez Mercado was found brutally murdered in November.

“Well, when we believe in peace, there is simply no room for complacency,” wrote Martin, a father of young children who describes himself as a “human rights defender.”

”The murders of James Byrd, Matthew Shepard, Jorge Steven Lopez, Marcelo Lucero, Luis Ramirez and countless others who were victims of violent ‘hate crimes’ should be completely unacceptable to every human being; because we're all human beings. It's up to us to change the paradigm. I hear the world ‘tolerance’ thrown around in the media when it comes to cases like the ones I mentioned above. One of the meanings of tolerance is ‘the capacity to endure pain or hardship.’ Another is ‘the act of allowing something.’ To me, those don't seem to encompass acceptance, by any definition. So how about this? Instead of saying ‘we need to tolerate diversity’ why not say, ‘we need to accept diversity.’”

On today's episode of "The Cowell Factor" radio show on Fame Games Radio, Simon's big brother, Tony, laid out an "Idol" bombshell.

"Simon prepares for a new season of 'Idol,' or should I say his last season of 'Idol?," Tony said. He added, "Okay, I will. Because it is. As I sit here in the sunny Caribbean with my family, a press statement is being prepared which will confirm what everyone expected."

Tony continued, "Simon will leave 'Idol' at the end of 2010 to concentrate on bringing the American version of 'The X Factor' to US TV in 2011. As for the panel, we'll have to wait a few months to get the answer I know you want."
